Police in North Western province this morning raided Kimabokwe Area of Kasempa District where scores of illegal miners have camped in search of gold.
Police conducted an operation to stop illegal mining activities in the area after a two weeks gold rush.
A check by ZNBC News at the site found heavy police presence at the mining pits with most structures destroyed and illegal gold miners removed.
North Western Province Deputy Police Commissioner DAVIS SIMWANZA confirmed the operation but could not confirm the number of arrests made.
And, some illegal gold miners spoken to have called on government to allow mining to continue at the site.
