Thousands of illegal miners are trapped without food or water, residents of Stilfontein, a town 140 kilometers (90 miles) southwest of Johannesburg, say. The miners are in an abandoned gold mine, according to the South African police. Last week, the police rounded up 834 clandestine miners who resurfaced in Stilfontein after security forces cut off their food and water supplies. Families of the illegal miners are waiting for them to resurface. (AFP)
