"It is vitally important that this election happens on April 7 because it is vitally important to our state that we have continuity of government during a crisis," Dean Knudson, chair of the Wisconsin Elections Commission, said during their recent special teleconference meeting on COVID-19. Knudson brought up issues with having vacancies in local governments across the state if the election does not happen. "The importance of the April 7 election I agree with, but that is in conflict with our ability to hold it safely...and candidly, if we don't even have hand sanitizer, we're not going to get poll workers," Ann Jacobs, Elections commissioner, responded. Jacobs argued that although the election is important, it is becoming more difficult to provide a safe election for poll workers and voters. The Commission continued to debate on possibilities of postponement or moving towards a purely mailed in election.
