We took this video to show you a common problem that problem wit timing chains develop if you do not replace your timing chain on time.
Some mechanics say that timing chains are a lifetime thing and they should not be replaced, well WRONG! The New Vehicles are equipped with more complicated engines. Most of the new vehicles have variable valves and the timing chains experience more work overtime.
Timing chain should be replaced every 100k miles and not the chain only. You should go with the whole timing chain kit which includes the tensioners and pulleys as well. Because the tensioners are the one that fail often and if you install a new chain on wore out gears than the new chain will be stretched and worn out in no time.
If you hear rattling noise when you start your car and it comes from the side of the timing chain then most likely it is the tensioner malfunctioning. If you do not run your car all you will need to do is put a new timing chain kit. If you drive the car that way than it will eventually jump a few teeth and you will damage the engine which will result in engine replacement.
We have seen a few vehicles with that problem. One of them is Hyundai with the 3.3 engine. Ford Escape or Mercury Mariner and Mazda Tribute with the 3.0 v6 engine. Mazda 3, 6, cx7, and cx9 as well and other vehicles too.
