STORYLINE
IT''S WINTER IN CHINA AT FASHION WEEK
The annual China Fashion Week kicked off in Beijing on Thursday (25 MAR 2010), with around 25 brands and 20 designers featuring their new designs for winter.
It''s the 13th year that Beijing has hosted China Fashion Week.
The fashion week launched with an International Young Fashion Designer competition, involving more than 30 designers from 18 countries including France, Germany and Russia.
Some Chinese veteran fashion designers say this year''s entrants have unexpectedly delivered a very experienced collection.
Ma Yanli, China''s former top model and now fashion designer, was impressed when she watched the contest.
"I thought designs for this year would be a little bit bookish, but I am really surprised to see many of them are quite mature and ideas are good and materials for the design are great, too," she said.
There will be approximately 50 events including fashion shows, professional contests, conferences and forums during the one-week fashion festival at the Beijing Hotel and D.PARK Beijing.
China Fashion Week Autumn / Winter 2010-2011 Collection runs until 30 March in Beijing.
