Japan is not the only country which could be brought into the AUKUS collaboration on advanced technology.
Canada is reportedly exploring joining ‘pillar two’ of the security pact.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also expressed interest in a nuclear submarine fleet to protect the country’s waters.
This comes amid growing concerns over the influence of China.
“Quite frankly, it’s good news that both Canada and New Zealand are going to be joined by Japan and is engaging more closely in AUKUS conversations,” Mr Trudeau said.
