Jorge Lorenzo has had the final corner at the Circuit de Jerez named after him. He was presented with the honour by the Mayoress of Jerez on Thursday 2nd May 2013. Jorge Lorenzo will celebrate his 26th birthday on Saturday 4th May and said the corner was the best present ever.

Jorge Lorenzo, the current MotoGP World Champion topped the timesheets in FP1 and FP2 on Friday 3rd May 2013 for Yamaha Racing leading Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa in FP1 and Monster Yahama Tech 3's Cal Crutchlow in FP2. Lorenzo is one of three Spanish riders competing in the first European round of the Championship this weekend in Jerez. Lorenzo's team-mate Valentino Rossi came third in FP1 and fourth in FP2.
