Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. John Fetterman’s wife Gisele, second lady of Pennsylvania, talks about how and why this summer the pool at the lieutenant governor’s residence in Fort Indiantown Gap in Lebanon County is open to public groups as part of a program to teach water safety.
The program, which is being run by the second lady, will allow nonprofits, summer camp groups and other organizations to request to use the pool, with hopes of giving underserved populations the opportunity to swim and combatting high drowning rates among minority groups. The program teaches kids how to swim and is open to students throughout the state, but they must provide their own transportation and lifeguard. Fetterman and his family are not using the pool, so they decided to put it to good use. The residence and the 30-by-40-foot pool is on National Guard property, about 25 miles from Harrisburg.
