Plant-based eating making you super bloated??
This gut health dietitian needs to tell you that A) it’s normal to be bloated from time to time and B) gas is a fact.
Buuuuuuut…. if the shift to plant-based has made, ahem, a clear impact on your gut, something to consider: your gut is a muscle, and it needs time to build up the strength to consume a high fibre, plant-filled diet.
Yes, that’s right: your gut will adapt. But it needs time. And that takes patience. 💆🏻♀️
So eating 2 cups of legumes a day isn’t it right now. Instead, try eating ½ cup a day for a couple of weeks and see how that goes. Then, when you’re ready, add some sprouted grain bread.
Over time, your gut will get stronger, and you’ll build a new gut microbiome better equipped to help you thrive on plants.
If your gut is telling you that something else is up, talk to your doctor. 👩⚕️
You may in fact have irritable bowel syndrome, and the higher FODMAP content of a whole food, plant-based life has triggered intolerance reactions.
