(26 May 2019) Austria's Chancellor Sebastian Kurz voted in Sunday's European Parliament election, which in Austria has been upended by the sudden collapse of Austria's governing coalition in a scandal that has tarnished the far-right Freedom Party.
After voting, Kurz said he hoped for a high turnout and the strengthening of Europe's big centrist parties - "and not the right and left wing."
Speaking after casting his ballot, Kurz also commented on a no-confidence motion he will face in the Austrian parliament on Monday.
Monday's vote would succeed if both the centre-left Social Democrats and the Freedom Party - the second and third-biggest parties - support it.
On Sunday Kurz said he expected that to be the case.
