The city of New Orleans is set to remove its fourth and final Confederate monument by taking down a prominent statue of General Robert E Lee on Friday afternoon. City workers in helmets and bulletproof vests are stationed at the top of a crane near the monument as they make the final preparations for the 16-foot statue's removal from the pedestal where it has stood since 1884. About 100 people, many carrying confederate or american flags, gathered in Lee circle on Friday morning when the crane first arrived, though the statue will not be taken down until close to 5pm CT.
