Follow along with Dr. John Hwang and his colleague Corrine Out as they take the audience through a number of clinical wound care scenarios. Expected learning outcomes are as follows:
• Review the basic anatomy & physiology around healing wounds
• Learn about the differences between acute & chronic wounds
• Understand intrinsic & extrinsic factors that may contribute to wound non-healing
• Learn a framework for discussing goals of wound care
• Develop a general approach to the diagnosis & treatment of both acute and chronic wounds with an emphasis on pressure injuries, diabetic/neuropathic foot ulcers, & mixed vascular ulcerations of the lower limbs
• Gain an understanding of different types of available wound care products & when to use them
• Have a conversation about the limitations of wound care in the context of long-term care & develop bridges to regional wound care resources.
