Dedicated IDFA-goers know Russian filmmaker Victor Kossakovsky's oeuvre well. In 1993, his first feature Belovy won both the VPRO Joris Ivens Award and the Audience Award. Tishe! was a festival hit in 2002, and in 2005 Svyato left a lasting impression.
During IDFA 2006, Kossakovsky gave a Masterclass in which he explained his unique vision on documentary. Shortly before the 19th edition of IDFA, Kossakovsky formulated ten rules for documentary filmmakers who are just getting their start. In his Masterclass, while screening Tishe! in the background, he explained how he applies his rules to his own work.
