STORYLINE:
Violence continued in Iraq on Thursday amidst news that Jordanian born militant and al-Qaida leader in Iraq, Abu Musaab al-Zarqawi had been killed.
A car bomb exploded in a busy outdoor market in New Baghdad, a neighbourhood on the eastern side of the city, killing at least 13 people and injuring at least 39 others, police said.
The injured were taken to al-Kindi Hospital in the city's Nahda neighbourhood for treatment.
Extensive damage could be seen in the market area, with burnt out fruit and vegetables and rubble strewn about the area.
Meanwhile, a roadside bomb also exploded on Thursday next to a police patrol in Palestine Street neighbourhood, injuring three policemen and damaging a police vehicle, police said.
Officials were at the scene inspecting the remains of the damaged vehicle.
