On 26/05/2012, APU International School held its 8th graduation commencement for its graduating students at the Opera House in Ho Chi Minh City.

The ceremony had 500 participants in attendance, including representatives from local organizations to representative delegates from the Ministry of Education and Training, the Department of Education, the Immigration Department, media, parents, students and other guests. During the ceremony, statements and speeches were given to the 2012 graduating class from representatives from the Ministry of Education and Training, as well as from the parents of the valedictorian and two salutatorians. Dr. Roy Nirschel, President of "The American University of Vietnam" project, also a guest of honor, also gave a speech to the graduates.

Scholarships were awarded to fifty outstanding students by prestigious universities in the United States, such as the University of Missouri -- Kansas City, Central Washington University, Roger Williams University, the University of Denver, the University of Minnesota, Hamline University and Portland State University among others. The scholarships added up to nearly $2,000,000, of which six students received full scholarships, worth up to $100,000 per award.

For the past seven years, APU has been the only program in Vietnam that has been able to secure full tuition scholarships for its valedictorian to attend one of their sponsoring US Universities. This is a very unique opportunity and we have also been able to award half and part scholarships to our merit scholars to attend our sister universities in the United States. Scholarships have ranged from $20,000 to $170,000.

Eleven students in the 11th grade graduated this year and also achieved a GPA of 3.70 and above. Most of them received a scholarship from APU's partner institutions in the United States.

For almost ten years APU International School has successfully prepared pathways for students to develop into well rounded, critical thinkers ready for a US university education. Our partner universities in the United States have consistently been very impressed with the performance of our alumni in their programs and the value they bring to their own university student community. During the past couple years, 85% of our graduates have made the Dean's List of their respective schools during their first year of college. It has been a joy to see many of our alumni return from their university studies in the United States to Vietnam and making contributions essential for positive development in the country, including assuming corporate positions, growing and supporting their family businesses, and even creating their own start-ups.

APU strives to adhere to its mission to be the best "pathway to US Universities" for Vietnamese students by setting convenient paths to prestigious universities in the United States. It is accredited by the World Education Services, as well as accreditation candidacy by the Western Association of Schools & Colleges and the Council of International Schools. APU is also the only member of the IIE in Vietnam and is an official test center for the SAT, Advanced Placement and ACT Standardized Examinations.
