QUOTATION FROM O.T.'S BOOK
§ 22.11 What is spiritual suicide?
In his article “Spiritual suicide”, Kosmos no. 2/2000, Martinus describes a form of suicide that differs somewhat from the intentional taking of one’s own life: “spiritual suicide” is the name he gives to the quite unconscious and gradual destruction of the spiritual bodies and structures by means of the daily repetition of bad habits, abuses, deviancy, vices and destructive thought patterns.
Martinus tells us how three or four successive lives spent in an ever deeper slide into alcoholism can lead to such extensive destruction of the talent kernels that the person is born with Downs’ syndrome and multiple handicaps. Because the talent kernels for the creation of a normal brain have been destroyed, the being in question is attracted at conception to genes with such major chromosome defects that they can even be observed through a normal microscope. Mentally retarded people do not merely have a defective physical body: their mental bodies are equally defective, producing major disturbances in the functions of instinct, feeling, intelligence, intuition and memory.
How can such damage leading to congenital diseases be repaired? Martinus has a very simple answer: the way back to normality is to live a normal life. The talent kernels for bad habits and unhealthy routines will automatically degenerate and disappear when they are not used. It can take a human being three or four lives to destroy his talent kernels and just as long to repair the damage.
Martinus explains that we can also destroy our talent kernels and end up with a sick and ruined organism by habitually thinking negative and wrong thoughts. In the article “Beyond the fear of death”, he writes that in addition to the fear of death there are other forms of fear and harmful thoughts that lead to nervous problems and mental breakdown.
He adds: “The matter is not improved by burdening these sick or defective organisms with all kinds of stimulants, filling the lungs with poisonous fumes such as tobacco smoke, filling the stomach with alcoholic substances or other materials that are destructive to a normal experience of life, so that the people concerned become abnormal for this reason alone. Those who acquire the daily habit of breathing in poisonous fumes as well as eating and drinking other substances that directly break down or destroy their ability to experience life can only be regarded as saboteurs of their own well-being. They therefore belong more or less to the category of “suicides”. But the point of life is not to kill oneself. Anything that is contrary to the meaning of life can only be abnormal. And the fact that this abnormality is represented by a very large group of people, in some places even perhaps a majority, does not make it any more normal” (Martinus' book no. 21B, Chapter 12).
