Various countries across the world are finding different ways to celebrate Pride amid the COVID-19 pandemic, with some taking to the streets while others celebrated virtually.
Taiwan, largely unscathed by the pandemic, held the "Taiwan Pride Parade for the World" on Sunday in Taipei as a show of solidarity with countries unable to hold their own celebrations due to physical distancing measures. More than 200 people waved rainbow flags while wearing masks, some singing and dancing, and briefly displayed a rainbow flag in front of the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial, which houses a giant statue of Taiwan's late leader.
In Israel, the celebrations were different due to COVID-19 restrictions, and limited rallies were held in Tel Aviv. Unlike the thousands often seen in its pride marches in past years, only hundreds of people wearing masks and costumes gathered near the municipality hall with security monitoring.
Hundreds of protesters marched through Madrid, Spain for LGBTQ rights on Sunday, even as Pride festivities were cancelled. Spain was one of the countries hit hardest by the coronavirus, and as of Sunday had more than 248,000 confirmed cases but has seem to have flattened the curve. Members of Madrid's Critical Pride platform demanded the "depathologization of trans people" and easing measures on officially changing one's gender.
