2023 Lexus RZ 450e in-depth Walkaround
Introducing the 2023 Lexus RZ 450e, a new player in the EV market. This luxury vehicle shares its platform with the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra but stands out with its more upscale exterior styling and posh cabin.
Powering the RZ 450e are two permanent-magnet synchronous AC motors. The front motor delivers 201 horsepower and 196 lb-ft of torque, while the rear motor contributes 107 horsepower and 124 lb-ft of torque. When combined, they produce an impressive 308 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. The electric power comes from a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery pack with a capacity of 63.4 kWh. The RZ 450e features a direct-drive transmission.
On the chassis front, the RZ 450e is equipped with struts in the front and a multilink suspension in the rear. The braking system consists of vented discs measuring 12.9 inches in the front and 12.5 inches in the rear. The tires are Dunlop SP SportMaxx 060, with size 235/50R-20 104V Extra Load in the front and 255/45R-20 105W Extra Load in the rear.
In terms of dimensions, the RZ 450e measures 189.2 inches in length, 74.2 inches in overall width (without mirrors), 64.4 inches in height, and has a wheelbase of 112.2 inches. It offers a cargo capacity of 34.9 cubic feet with all seats in place. Acceleration-wise, it can go from 0 to 60 mph in 5.0 seconds and has a turning circle of 36.8 feet. The curb weight of the vehicle is 4,564 lbs.
In terms of fuel economy and charging, the RZ 450e achieves an observed MPGe of 73. Its MPGe for 75-mph highway driving is 68, with a range of 120 miles. The average DC fast-charge rate from 10% to 90% is 36 kW, and the DC fast-charge time for the same range is 86 minutes. As per EPA ratings, the RZ 450e has a combined MPGe of 95, with city and highway MPGe ratings of 102 and 87, respectively. The estimated range is 196 miles.
