In this video I offer up ideas on how to make your homebrewed dungeons unique and fun to play, both from player exploration and encounter design.
I talk about the basic building blocks of dungeon design, which include walls, ceilings, floors, entrances and exits along with architectural features.
I then discuss each item, showing how you can take a simple rectangular room and put in features that make it interesting. I talk about ceiling height and how this can affect the type of creatures and attack modes, how the floor can have features such as pits and chutes, and how you can have unique entrances that allow access to only a few select creatures.
I also discuss the classic "odd shaped" rooms and how they can provide unique cover to monsters.
Here are some of the products you can use to start playing D&D and create your own homebrewed campaign.
