Long before the invention of tip-ex composers of baroque music would have had to be a lot more careful than nowadays when editing their original manuscript.
In this episode of the Daily Edit Adrian Chandler looks in more detail at the original manuscript of violin concerto RV 263. With around 250 concerto's Adrian accepts that Vivaldi was allowed to have an off day, and shows in more detail the way in which he would have had to edit his own baroque music. From crossing out whole staves, to adding a leaf of paper over the parts of the manuscript that needed correction, Antonio Vivaldi made many corrections within RV 263.
Having only known the version of RV 263 from Opus 9 exploring the original manuscript was definitely eye opening experience for Adrian Chandler.
The next violin concerto in line for the Daily Edit series is RV 278, one of Vivaldi's later works. Full of interesting snippets such as stating parts to be played without harpsichords and directions in the bass part.
