This is between Denham Springs and Watson, in northwest Livingston Parish. Apparently, Livingston parish was the hardest hit out of all 20 parishes that were effected by this storm system. It was estimated that 85% of the homes in the parish were a total loss. My home was one of the 15% of homes that never saw a single inch, thankfully. People lost a lot, all but a couple of my family and friends, lost everything.
Even my 90 year old grandfather who lived in Pride at the time, which is a town that's about 30 minutes from Denham Springs and located in East Baton Rouge Parish, also took a hard hit. He ended up with a foot of water in his house, which was already a good foot or two off the ground. It was extra sad since him and my grandmother lived in that house for at least 50 to 60 years. It was the same house that my now deceased father, and his sisters grew up in. My cousins had to rescue him by boat. I just wish I could have been there to help, but I had no way to get to him. We were pretty much trapped for well over 24+ hours until the water receded.
One of my childhood friends and her husband got 5 feet of water In the house they had just moved into a few months before the flood. Her husband was coming home from work the night it started raining, but when he got to the entrance of their neighborhood, the water was far too high at that point to drive his truck through. So he literally had to hitch a ride on a boat, in order to rescue his wife, my childhood friend, and their two children. Once the boat made it to the house, both of them had to walk through waist deep water to hop back in the boat, all while she carried their new born and he carried their 5 year old.
Another friend had to be rescued from her home as well. She ended up with 4 to 5 feet of water in her house too. To make matters worse for her, she had just been diagnosed with breast cancer. Fortunately they caught it just in time, so shes doing great now. But damn, thats some major stress to have to go through.
I've been living here since the age of 5, I'm 26 now, so in the past 21 years, I have never seen shit like this.. On a side note, I am glad I drive a truck lol. Driving home the morning it started raining, had a pucker factor that was off the charts. I was working at Dow chemical in Addis, LA at the time, and luckily, they rained us out at just the right moment. If they had waited just an hour or two later, I doubt we (my coworkers and myself) would've made it home.
Merci for watching mes amies!! C'est tout!!
