Ninh Binh was our first stop after leaving Hanoi and we stayed in Tam Coc for 2 days to really soak up all the scenic beauty (it is a UNESCO World Heritage site after all!). Tam Coc means "Three Caves" so we set off on a boat trip to pass through them all - Ca, Hai and Ba. This trip cost 350,000 dong per person (£10) and took about 3 hours, rowing 3km down the river on a wooden boat, passing beautiful limestone structures and rice paddies. You can see why this place is locally known as "Ha Long Bay on land". A detail unique to Tam Coc is that the people rowing the boats (mostly women) use their feet to row the paddles instead of their hands and with such skill, it's amazing to watch. Once off the boat, we took an electric car to visit some temples dotted around the tranquil village, most notably the Thai Vi Temple and Bich Dong Pagoda where we flew our drone to capture the emerland green lagoon surrounding the bridge.
