Hello and welcome to the channel. In this video you will see me make a pair of bud vases from a piece of figured walnut on the woodturning lathe.

I started by fixing a planed piece of oak to the faceplate to use as a waste block. Then I prepared the walnut by drilling four holes to mount straight to the oak. I needed to take 5mm from the face of the wood so I countersunk the screws past that to avoid hitting any while turning.

Once shaped the piece was removed from the faceplate and cut in half on the table saw. Each block was then rotated 90 degrees for a new countersunk screw hole and refitted to the waste block for the second turn.

With the second side shaped and sanded the pieces were removed from the faceplate to get ready for the third turn. Mounted in a spindle orientation I then shaped the top and bottom of the vases.

Finished in a coat of shellac.
