Mel Schriver grew up in the small farming community of Maugerville, New Brunswick where his family has farmed for over 200 years and he attended the University of New Brunswick (UNB) where he obtained both his undergraduate (B.Sc. (Hons.)) and graduate (Ph.D.) degrees in Synthetic Inorganic Chemistry. He was subsequently awarded a Killam Fellowship and an NSERC Post-Doctoral Studies Fellowship to work at Dalhousie University. Mel was then appointed to faculty positions at Saint Mary's University and Memorial University of Newfoundland and established independent research groups funded with grants from institutional, government and industrial sources. In addition to teaching chemistry and physics, Mel is the Coordinator of the Crandall Science Program and LabEx, a science outreach program to Christian schooled and homeschooled high school students.
