During his stopover in Hawaii, President Lai visited the USS Arizona Memorial. In the evening, the president attended a banquet with members of the overseas Taiwanese community in Honolulu. During the meal, Lai spoke on the need for cooperation to prevent war. This is what he had to say.
Lai Ching-te
President
Our visit to the [USS Arizona] Memorial today in particular reminds us of the importance of ensuring peace. Peace is priceless. War has no winner. We have to fight together to prevent war.
Ingrid Larson
AIT managing director
President Lai, your trip is also crucial in building these bonds, and your partnerships help to enhance Taiwan’s resilience and Taiwan’s security. Taiwan is an economic powerhouse, and an important trade partner to the United States, and an indispensible link in critical supply chains.
Laura Rosenberger
AIT chairwoman
The opportunity for you to engage with thought leaders, the diaspora community, and state and local leaders is invaluable, and I know will contribute to further strengthening of a rock-solid US-Taiwan partnership.
AIT Chairwoman Laura Rosenberger, who is on maternity leave, spoke at the banquet via video. Additionally, 17 local senators, former AIT chairman James Moriarty, AIT Managing Director Ingrid Larson, and more than 300 Taiwanese expats attended the event.
