Around two dozen protesters in Turin - Italy's fourth largest city - voiced their support for #HongKong demonstrators on Sat & urged their government to do more to prevent a "New Tiananmen."
Carrying signs that read "China's Belt and Road is a Road to Submission" & "Democracy for Hong Kong," they shouted "Free Hong Kong," "Hong Kong, keep it up", and "Five demands, not one less."
An organiser from the Nonviolent Radical Party, Transnational & Transparty said democratic states put business with #China above all else: "...at the expense of democratic values & respect for human rights. Italy is in the lead. This is a shame that must be stopped immediately."
“I saw right there in Hong Kong what [the protest] was about, & it was about freedom, every kind of freedom, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom to just get around & talk about what you believe in," said one protester. "I want them to know that there are people who will fight for them, even if they feel no hope. They give us hope that something will change."
