Kishor Ladwa was very close to playing for the Ugandan national side in cricket - he was just about to be called up to play when former president of Uganda, Idi Amin, ordered all Asians out of the country in 1972.
Once arriving in the UK it only took a matter of weeks before Kishor was signed up to play for local football and cricket teams. He hit headlines with his success and even became the first captain of Asian heritage for his county cricket team.
He was openly accepted into the community due to this and decided to make use of the opportunity, so he and and his brother decided to help other Ugandan Asians settle in Peterborough and started forming a Hindu community. Kishor went on to become a successful business man, winning several awards is also now president of the Hindu Community and temple in Peterborough.
‘Get out of Uganda WITHIN 90 days’ is the sixth short film in our series #GenerAsians, commemorating 50 years since the Ugandan Asian Expulsion in 1972.
