How does professional dance choreography get to the final result you see on stage? In this talk, Sara and Kylie demystify the creative process, offering a window into making new dance works. You'll watch as they guide dancers Silvia Burstein-Hendi and Ila M. Conoley through a series of improvisational and collaborative steps to choreograph a modern dance performance inspired by the music of Michael Wall and the theme "Ripples." Sara Lavan and Kylie Murray are Co-Artistic Directors of Local Motion Project, a non-profit dance organization in Alexandria, Virginia. Together they create programming for youth and adults in the studio, and in outreach in the community. They direct the adult ensemble, LMP Collective, and two youth performing ensembles. They partner with Smithsonian, are teaching artists with Kennedy Center and provide professional development for educators nationally. Most recently their dance film, "Not an Exit" was selected for the Alexandria Film Festival.
