Why is an IP rating important? There are many marketing terms used for products such as water resistant or water proof, but we need to go further and understand exactly what these terms mean. IP ratings establish a level of conformity on descriptive terms that are used to promote a product.
Now how are IP ratings established? When a manufacturer wants an IP rating for their product, they must have it tested by an independent and certified company. The testing company certifies the numerical IP rating of that product to signify how well the item protects against intrusion of solids as well as liquids. Having an IP rating is having the ability to backup the claims or features that are touted about a specific product.
So how do you read IP ratings? IP ratings represent the level of protection provided by a device against the intrusion solid objects and liquids. An IP rating usually has 2 numbers. The first number represents the level of protection from solids with 0 offering 0 protection and 6 offering the most. The second number represents the level of protection from liquids with 0 offering 0 protecting and 9 k offering the most. The majority of our wash down scales are rated ip66, ip67, or ip68.
