This was my first attempt at wood turning on my new mini-lathe. While I was cleaning up the copper pipe with a 320 grit sandpaer after cutting the slot, the copper dust started making the white wood look dirty. Instead of resanding the wood and trying to clean it up, I decided to make extra copper dust on another piece of copper pipe and rubbed it into the wood grain instead of staining the wood using traditional solvent based stains. I then applied 4 coats of spray laquer to seal and hopefully protect the copper finish. I haven't been able to find anyone else online that has done this so I might have accidentally invented a new wood finishing technique. It will be interesting to see if the copper interferes with with the adhesion of the lacquer with use.
