Tax Hikes by Kenyan President Isolates his Base
Kenyan president William Ruto’s proposal to hike taxes, has faced a major backlash amongst his voters. In his defence, Ruto claimed that tax hikes are needed to avert the national debt crisis and also fund affordable housing projects. 80% voters who voted for Ruto in Kenya's tea country Githunguri, are now not willing to speak in his defence. Conversely, Ruto says he has kept his promise of helping the poor - directing towards initiatives including a micro-loans program called the "Hustler Fund".
