Russia has cancelled a mammoth project to construct the South Stream pipeline meant to supply gas to southern Europe by bypassing Ukraine. Russian president Vladimir Putin blamed the European Union for getting in the way, saying 'We see that obstacles are being set up to prevent its fulfilment.'
