In this video we unload another glaze kiln containing pieces made by my extremely talented students. In this load we have thrown pieces by Diane who hasn’t thrown for 30 years and managed to make a nesting set of bowls in her first session back on the wheel – extremely impressive – and wins her Student of the Week this week. There are pinch pot seed heads and textured platters made by some new students on the Introduction to Handbuilding course and these are the first of their pieces to be fired – they should be really pleased with themselves for their achievement – they look great with some lovely glazes from the Amaco Celadon Range. Gill has made two lovely leaf platters - one sporting a characterful palladium snail - so cute!
Two of my pieces are decorated with a Sanboa underglaze transfers depicting Birds and Leaves which are very pretty and I shall use these in our own home. Sometimes it’s easy to forget to keep things when we are running a business.
The Amaco Potter’s Choice and Celadon glazes shown in this video are: Downpour, Chun Plum, Weeping Plum, Blue Rutile, Textured Turquoise, Sky and Deep Sea. I have also used Mayco Moonscape on a handbuilt mug – really pleasing.
There are some test tiles of the coloured clay that I have in the studio which will enable me to choose which colours go together when marking marbled mugs on the wheel. It is also coming towards the festive season so porcelain Lamas make an appearance for the first time this year.
My work is available to purchase via my Etsy shop (link below) if you’d be kind enough to take a look.
Hi I’m Sarah Amos. I gave up my day job and am now living the dream as a full-time potter and teacher, running courses from my studio, The Pottery Corner, in a little village just outside Chichester on the South Coast of England. With Cissy and Charlie, my studio companions, we welcome students of all abilities from complete beginners to the more experienced, teaching throwing on the potters wheel as well as handbuilding techniques.
I love to share my clay experience and knowledge by passing on pottery techniques in my Pottery Top Tip videos; which include full tutorials on items to try out yourselves. I also sell my work via my Website and Etsy Shop. So grab a cuppa, sit back, relax and let’s dive into what’s going on in The Pottery Corner today.
