On Dec. 22nd 2024 the new lineup of Gary Lucas's long time band Gods and Monsters played their first ever public appearance at the Colony Woodstock NY. Featuring Calvin Weston on drums (Ornette Coleman, The Lounge Lizards) and longtime Gods and Monsters bassist Ernie Brooks (Modern Lovers, Arthur Russell), the psychedelic jazz-rock power trio opened with a blistering version of Lucas's signature instrumental "King Strong", as featured live on "The Great Lost Gods and Monsters" (Mighty Quinn)
and in the studio on "The Essential Gary Lucas" (Knitting Factory). The temperature outside was one degree above zero Fahrenheit but the band heated up the room very quickly :-)
