Algeria was conquered by France in the 19th century, and France integrated Algeria as part of Metropolitan France. Despite this, France kept a harsh hold on the lands, and bitterly fought to retain Algerian in the 1950s in the Algerian War, which Algeria ultimately won. Today we see what would have happened if France defeated and kept Algeria.
