The Window of the World in Waigeo is a real visualization based on true story of 4G BTS roll-out in one of the remaining 7.904 remote and outermost inhabited villages in Indonesia which was not covered by 4G and was online disconnected. Indonesia is composed of more than 17,500 islands with 275 million inhabitans. Ethnically the country is highly diverse, with over 1,300 ethnics and 600 local languages and dialects. Digital Nation 2024 roadmap imposes the digital inclusiveness all around Indonesia.
Agency for Telecommunication and Information Accessibility of Ministry of Communication and Information Technology of Republic of Indonesia is a government organization which dedicates itself to address the universal service obligation (USO) and the issue inclusive telecommunication access in Indonesia.
The strong commitment of Government of Indonesia to reach digitally every citizen has been manifested by its budget spending policy, hand to hand with private sector partnerships, and ensuring the BTS 4G provisioning and roll-out in non-commercially viable remote and outermost rural areas. We understand that focusing on the supply side only, will end up with a slack capacity. So we promote community development by enhancing their digital capability and at the same time provide them with platform, application, and content which are in line with their real needs. Together with other ministries, community, NGOs, local government and start up we define and promote the application for some sectors as education, health, fishery, tourism, and of course one pivotal program: financial inclusion. Government resources is limited so the aggregate participation from other entities is really the key which determine the success of Government program.
Indonesia has been paving the way toward digital nation by 2024. Since 2016, Indonesia has accelerated and built the backbone, backhaul, lastmile, and access for enabling the latest cellular technology and broadband not only in urban areas. Indonesia aims to accelerate value creation across the country. Broadband means digital inclusion to digital economy regardless the regional remoteness of people. Broadband allows adoption of disruptive business model, income redistribution, sharing economy, and digitization of workforce. No one will be left behind despite of their geographic challenges.
