On a chilly autumnal day, we head to they North Yorkshire Moors Railway for their annual steam gala which this year, had a welsh theme to it.
Some members of their home fleet were renumbered as welsh residents. Black 5s 45428 and 44806 were disguised as scrapped welsh members 45344 and 44776. Their Standard 4 2-6-0 was disguised as 76038, another scrapped welsh resident.
They had two visiting GWR locomotives in the form of 7822 Foxcote Manor, based at Llangollen (appoligies for any mistakes for that name lol) and 2807, a vintage 2800 based at Glouceter.
76084, a newly mainline certified Standard 4 2-6-0 was visiting from the North Norfolk Railway.
Starting our day at Pickering, we board B1 61264 to Grosmont. 61264 was standing in for 2807 which had unfortunately failed that day. This meant 61264 had been withdrawn from the Battersby run. 61264 put in a great performance to Grosmont, especially over the 1:49 just after Levisham before Newtondale.
At Grosmont, we then board 44776 with 76084 assisting to Levisham. The pair put in another great performance over the 1:49 to Goathland and then a gentle performance downhill to Levisham where we change for 7822 to Grosmont. She put on an amazing show to Goathland, absolutely charging over 1:49 to Newton Dale. After departing Newton Dale, she stormed off again and when cresting the summit, she was doing 32 mph, a completely different performance compared to earlier in the morning when she was just limping over the 1:49 into Goathland, slipping even after cresting the climb into the station.
Upon arrival into Grosmont, we take a break for lunch, while we watch a small number of services depart for various destinations along the line.
We then board the run to Battersby, which was in the capable hands of 45344 (45428).
A run I have wanted to do for a very long time has finally come true.
45344 put in a great performance throughout the whole outward trip. Despite needing to stop at Glaisdale. After arrival into Battersby, D7628 Class 25 Diesel towed the load back to Grosmont.
We then boarded our final trip of the day which was 61264 over to Pickering. She put in another brilliant performance over the 1:49 ro Goathland and Levisham.
To sum up, it was a fantastic day getting my first haulage behind 61264 and also the Battersby run. Getting Manor haulage was also fantastic.
Thanks for reading and enjoy my first HD upload of my fantastic day to the Moors. Bring on the Spring.
