The Bhagavad Gita is a conversation between the greatest of all teachers, Sri Krishna, and the best of all disciples, Arjuna, that uses the best teaching methodology, the question-and-answer method. Sadguru explains that the essence of the first chapter is doing our duty despite all attachments and the Bhagavad Gita is the best teacher in routing the course of our life with dharma as the basis of all actions.
Chapter 1 is about Arjuna’s sorrow that became a yoga (union). It’s a yoga because this sorrow took him to God. Arjuna’s problem was that on the battlefield, he could not carry out his duty as a Kshatriya/Warrior. The battle that was about to happen in Kurukshetra was a battle of Dharma, in which everyone knew Dharma will win in the end. Arjuna asked for his chariot to be placed in a position that he could see who he was fighting, to see those serving and fighting for Duryodhana. However, Sri Krishna placed the chariot right in front of his favourite grandfather, Bhishmacharya, to which Arjuna starts trembling, loses his strength and gives all the reasons to not fight the war. The duty of a Kshatriya is not only to fight bad, but mainly to protect people against all evil but Arjuna, at that point of time could not, due to his attachment to his kin.
Sri Krishna allows Arjuna to purge himself of all his ideas and sorrows in this Chapter 1. Sri Krishna only keeps quiet and listens to all that Arjuna has to say as that is the quality of a good teacher. Sadhguru concludes by explaining that all actions must be done for the sake of dharma without attachments, expectations, rewards, and appreciation and that everyone should sincerely learn as with sincerity, knowledge can be attained.
