Mass protests continued across Romania on Monday evening although the government scrapped a controversial emergency decree which could decriminalize official misconduct the day earlier.
In the capital Bucharest, the street protest showed no signs of letting up late on Monday with hundreds of flag-waving, whistle-blowing demonstrators calling for the government to quit.
The protests have continued for seven consecutive evenings in Bucharest and other Romanian cities since Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu's cabinet last week approved the emergency ordinance which critics and protesters said could help corrupt politicians escape justice.
The protesters said they are fed up with the government which they say is corrupt and completely untrustworthy, and vowed to continue with the protests until it resigns.
"We want to send a very strong signal that we had enough with the stealing money from the people, with corruption, with governing the country by being not transparent at all. We are going to be here every day until this government is going to resign," said a protester.
According to local media reports, more than half a million people joined in the anti-government protests across the country on Sunday evening, the biggest nationwide protests in almost three decades. A record 280,000 people participated in the protest in the capital.
The government has so far refused to resign.
