Heartful Activity of the Week 33 - Insignificance
Activity 1
“So many of our brothers rack their brains in trying to show off and outshine their fellow creatures in the Mission by attracting Master’s attention.”
Let us reflect upon this sentence and try to look within ourselves to see if we suffer from this tendency. If we find any tinge of it, let us pray at bedtime, offering ourselves in suppliance at the feet of the Master, praying for removal of any such tendencies.
Activity 2
Meditation on Point A
The thought that “I am something” is the root cause of the feeling of separation from everything in creation. This technique is highly effective for correcting self-indulging tendencies as well as promoting a feeling of universal brotherhood and, in turn, creating unity amongst all. Fix your attention on Point A, with the thought that all the women and men of the world are your sisters and brothers. Hold your thought on this while you meditate on Point A, believing this to be the reality. This is a really short but extremely effective practice. If practiced wholeheartedly you can see its effect immediately, and this effect will be permanent. This meditation is to be done before going to bed for not more than ten minutes.
Sisters are advised to follow the process with a slight modification. Instead, think that all divine gifts are available to you, and that all men and women of the world think they are brothers and sisters and your thought is one with theirs.
Activity 3
“When you read the ten maxims again and again, again and again, there is a common theme, a great expectation. What is the great expectation, which you see at the end of the book where Babuji Maharaj says, “Om, shanti, shanti, shanti”? It means that he has already put a sankalpa that, by following these ten maxims, you will have this shanti, shanti, shanti in your life. And what is the ultimate feature of this ultimate peace? In a state of peace, what do we feel? We feel utterly simple, utterly pure and utterly humble. These are the characteristics of insignificance”
Let us make a resolution to practice the ten maxims, taking up at least one to begin with this week, and move to embodying all of them gradually in our lives.
