Christina Applegate recently opened up about the intense physical pain she experiences due to multiple sclerosis, sharing how it often leaves her in agony. “I lie in bed screaming,” she revealed on the November 5 episode of MeSsy, the podcast she cohosts with Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who also has MS. Applegate described the pain as sharp and unrelenting, explaining that her symptoms have worsened over time.
The episode featured Rory Kandel, a fellow MS patient and owner of Rory’s Bakehouse, who described her own symptoms, saying, “It feels like I have knives in my stomach.” She shared how even simple movements in bed can feel impossible. Applegate empathized, noting that her own pain is now constant and affects her hands, making tasks like picking up her phone or opening bottles difficult.
Despite the invisible nature of MS, the impact on daily life is profound. "It’s the beauty of the invisible disease," Applegate commented, highlighting the disconnect between how people with MS might appear and the pain they endure.
Applegate, who was diagnosed in 2021, explained how painful it can be to get out of bed, humorously comparing the floor to “lava.” Sigler echoed this, describing her own painful steps each morning, likening it to stepping on hot coals. Despite the challenges, Applegate maintains a sense of humor, joking about needing extra help to manage her symptoms while also acknowledging the difficulties of living with MS.
