The United States is considering permanently stationing the controversial THAAD missile battery in South Korea to help defend against North Korean threats.
Adding that no final decision has been made on the THAAD deployment, Frank Rose, assistant secretary of state for arms control, made the remark during a security seminar in Washington on Tuesday.
Rose also said that although the U.S. is "considering the permanent stationing of a THAAD unit on the Korean Peninsula... we've had no formal consultations with the Republic of Korea" on the matter.
Meanwhile, Adm. James Winnefeld Jr., vice chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, told a conference in Washington that North Korea might have manipulated the recently aired video of its test-fire of a submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) to exaggerate progress in the SLBM development.
