A quick video demonstrating how to execute a plie in first position.
Demi: Start with a solid first position. Bend the knees until the heels are about to come off the floor. Press the heels down and keep pressing the knees out. Open the thighs and squeeze them as you rise back up.
Grand: execute a demi plie, then continue dropping the hips towards the floor as the heels gently rise. Shoulders stay stacked over the hips. It is a clean, vertical line on the way down and the way up.
