The vintage Sunbeam model T-48 toaster is the Rolls Royce of all domestic toasters. This toaster is based on the principal of radiant heat and is a fully automatic toaster. All you do is drop in the bread... Bread lowers itself automatically, no levers to push... Toast raises itself silently, without popping or banging.
The popping mechanism responds to the temperature of the bread and not that of the toaster. The toaster never pops up prematurely, even after continuous use. This toaster is 11" long, 7¼" high and 6½" wide. The electrical cord is approximately 30 inches.
It is in excellent condition with a beautiful and shiny mirror like finish on the chrome. It is nice and clean inside and out with a few very minor superficial scratches or scuffs on the chrome. The bakelite base and handles are in great shape with no chips or cracks.
It is in nice working condition. A sliding switch on the front of the toaster controls the degree to which the bread is toasted. The toast automatically goes down (for 1 toast place in the "one slice" slot), and with the light/dark switch between on the light setting it cooks for about 1 minute & 10 seconds and then automatically shuts off and the toast rise on their own. The toast cooks slightly unevenly on both sides (see video). A metal plate underneath snaps open for easy cleaning. A tiny screw on the underside of the toaster allows you to fine tune the radiant heat settings.
The knob on the front works very nicely, and the labels beneath do not have any wear. A metal plate underneath snaps open for easy cleaning. A tiny screw on the underside of the toaster allows you to fine tune the radiant heat.
