The Fire and Rescue Service says it suspects Sunday's fire at the old Westside School 'could have been started intentionally', pointing out the building has no electrical supply.
Three fire appliances attended; the use of water jets led to a number of roof and staircase collapses, with "near misses" to firefighters. The building itself was otherwise unoccupied, and nobody was hurt.
The blaze was brought largely under control within about an hour, with firefighters able to turn off their hoses after around two and a half hours.
The building has been deemed unsafe for entry by any fire investigators, or Scenes of Crime officers from the Royal Gibraltar Police.
GBC reporter, Kevin Ruiz, found out more from the Fire and Rescue Service's Station Officer, Kevagn Estella.
