The 2021 Toyota Mirai is a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. Originally debuting in 2015, the Mirai uses hydrogen to power the electric motors which in turn power the drive wheels. Fueled by hydrogen, and powered by electric motors, the Mirai's only emissions are H2O, water, which is really cool.
This second generation Mirai is all new for 2021, and now based on the Toyota GA-L platform shared with the Lexus LS, meaning this luxury-minded green machine is RWD, and surprisingly fun to drive. The EPA estimates that this new Mirai can go up to 400 miles on a single tank of hydrogen, which will cost you about $10.
Sales of the Mirai are currently limited to the state of California due to limited hydrogen fueling solutions across the country, though Toyota does expect to see increased usages and planning for hydrogen fueling stations in the Pacific Northwest and on the East Coast.
