Cardiac Surgeon at Baptist Health Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute {TRANSCRIPT}: - Aortic surgery is performed depending on the area, but it's an open-heart surgery. It involves the ascending aorta, or the root, or what we call the arch. It's usually an open-heart surgery, to make it in simple terms, where we have to replace that portion of the aorta. Usually, when it becomes on the descending aorta, we can use a stent graft, or also sometimes we have to do it open through a thoracotomy, or if it's the whole aorta, we do thoracic abdominals.
