(22 Nov 2014) A festival marking the 25th anniversary of United Nations Convention on Rights of the Child was held in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires on Saturday.
Children and adults joined worldwide celebrations of the UN initiative that aims for the rights of children to be respected.
They played drums and assembled large-scale toys at Centenario Park in central Buenos Aires.
Yael Bendel, general adviser of the Tribunal Counsel on Guardianship of Buenos Aires, said "Argentina adopted the Convention in 2005."
"Of course we have pending issues, we still have to enforce the 'right to be heard.' Although we're exercising that right from the justice side, it's an issue that has to be helped from the media and society. We see that there's talk about children but few times we talk with them," she added.
According to the UN, the Convention on the Rights of the Child has been ratified so far by 194 countries, making it the most widely ratified international human rights treaty.
The Convention, adopted in 1989, explicitly recognises children as having specific rights.
