The fast-paced development of the twin cities of Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar will hit another milestone when Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on September 16, inaugurates the second phase of the Metro Rail, connecting 21 km between the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Motera and Gandhinagar Sector 1 over eight stations, with one route branching out to GIFT City in Gandhinagar. The first phase of the Metro, inaugurated by Modi in September 2022, covers a 33.5-km-long north-south corridor. Travel time is 65 minutes and the fare Rs 35. The second phase will connect parts of Ahmedabad with the education district in South Gandhinagar, which hosts institutions like the Gujarat National Law University, Pandit Deendayal Energy University, Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology and the National Institute of Design’s Gandhinagar campus. However, the area’s connectivity to the Ahmedabad airport through the Metro is awaited.
