STORYLINE:
Austrian Chancellor Wolfgang Schuessel met with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov on Monday.
They discussed opening more trade between the two countries, now at 1.9 (b) billion US dollars.
Schuessel noted that exports from Austria to Russia rose 40 percent last year, reducing the two nations' trade deficit.
To boost business ties, about 100 Austrian businessmen are accompanying the Austrian leader to Moscow.
Kasyanov and Schuessel were also expected to sign an agreement on cooperation tourism.
Earlier on Monday, Schuessel met with Russian prosecutors.
His aim was to push for rehabilitation of hundreds of Austrians executed or imprisoned in Soviet times.
Nearly 4,000 Austrians fell victim to Soviet political reprisals from the 1930s to the 1950s.
Schuessel said they include political refugees such as communists who moved to the Soviet Union in the 1930s and prisoners from World War II.
He urged prosecutors to move forward with the process, saying it gives honor, a name and face to thousands of people.
Mikhail Kislitsyn, Russia's head military prosecutor, gave Schuessel dozens of rehabilitation certificates for Austrian citizens persecuted by Soviet authorities.
Since the 1991 law on rehabilitating political prisoners, more than 83,000 people including 16,000 foreigners have had their cases overturned.
Schuessel is to meet President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday before returning home.
